On June 27 Parfum de BoemBoem will take you on an expedition through the beating heart of Rotterdam’s city centre. This edition is about the transformation of the city. Get ready for a classic Parfum de BoemBoem tour, also known as the ‘Old School Construction Site Special’, and of course, with the yellow construction helmet on!

It won’t have escaped your notice: Hofplein is completely torn up! It is currently transforming from a busy traffic junction meant for getting from A to B, into a place to relax and stay. Paving stones and asphalt are making way for green spaces, and cars are being scaled back significantly to make room for pedestrians and cyclists. The highlight of this transformation? The iconic Hofplein fountain, of course. Whereas previously you could only get close to the fountain when Feyenoord won a championship, soon everyone will have permanent access to this beating heart of the city. During this Parfum de BoemBoem Old School Construction Site Special, you will have the exclusive scoop! With the tour you are allowed behind the fences for the very first walk to the fountain, while it is still a full-on construction site!

A sneak peek inside the construction site

This edition, Parfum de BoemBoem is also diving into the developments around Hofplein at Weena and Coolsingel. For instance, you will visit The Modernist by architectural firm MVRDV, the same architects behind famous Rotterdam hotspots like Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen and the Markthal. Prominently rising right opposite Central Station, two residential towers featuring over 400 homes with ground-floor offices are being built here as the city’s newest eye-catcher. The route will also pass by POST. Parfum de BoemBoem has been following this construction project in the iconic post office on Coolsingel for years, and it is now nearing completion. This means it’s your very last chance for a sneak peek inside this spectacular construction site and to hear the stories behind this metamorphosis, where historical elements and modern new-builds cleverly come together.
